This modular system, which is originally German, provides solutions for small settlements with no central waste water treatment system such as villages, housing estates, refugee camps, touristic facilities, etc. The system also treats the waste water and allows for reuse as irrigation water, flushing water in toilets or in cooling towers. Although there are EcoDisk Plants as large as 750,000 people capacity in the USA and Europe, it is more common for smaller capacities up to 20,000 people with low running expenses and maintenance costs.

Methodology

The system includes plastic disks attached to a steel mill rotating at low-speed with 40% of it immersed in the waste water at any time. While the shaft is rotating, the bacteria sticks onto the plastic disks creating a biological sludge. Once the disks cycle out of the water these bacteria meet with the air and feed off of the oxygen. The bacteria then start to oxidize and consume one another decreasing the amount of bacteria in the water. This process efficiently produces treated waste water and sludge.

Features

  • Polyethylene or GRP (Fiberglas) body that will last for years.
  • Virgin material High Density Polypropylene Disks (HDPP) with a minimum of 1.7mm thickness and 2000 mm diameter. These discks can be effectively used for years without any degradation.
  • Solid Steel shaft - chromium and/or epoxy paint coated.
  • All deep galvanized metal parts are designed to last for several years against corrosion.
  • Units can be placed above or below ground.
  • Fixed film technology utilized by EcoDisk provides the greatest tolerance to unexpected changes in hydraulic and organic loading.

Performance

  • Achieve BOD levels < 20mg/l
  • Nitrification, denitrification and high level of phosphate removal
  • All municipal wastewater treatment standards can easily be met

Advantages

  • Low Running costs: EcoDisk systems have lower energy consumption than any comparable waste water treatment systems. It consumes up to 15 times less energy compared to conventional systems. At a typical plant, the cost of energy required is less than 20 cents/person/month.
  • Low maintenance costs: With its rudimentary design and robust structure, the system requires up to 90% less maintenance costs. There is no requirement for constant human or technical intervention.
  • Modular system: The capacity of the system can be extended with additional modules or the existing capacity can be lowered depending on waste water load.
  • No odor or noise: The systems operate odorless, without any disturbing noises and are highly adaptive to changing loads. Treated water quality is in line with US/EU Standards and can be used for irrigation purposes after tertiary treatment of filtration and disinfection.
  • Fast Installation: The delivery of a typical size EcoDisk system with a capacity of 300 to 1000 persons is within 2-3 weeks and it has a 2 - 4 day set-up period before becoming operational.
  • Nitrification, denitrification and phosphor removal is easily achievable.
  • Certified and approved: EcoDisk is a CE compliance certified RBC (Rotating Biological Contactor) system manufactured in Turkey, meeting and exceeding international RBC standards.
